Calligraphy

I learned Italic writing from the age of nine and went on to study formal scripts as part of the art course at school. This interest has revived my recreational activities. Further stimulation was provided by Italian calligrapher Massimo Polello at a weekend workshop where we used new tools and techniques that use the calligraphic gesture: it does not have to be legible!

One of my favourite processes is to write letters and then cut them out from card so that they have three-dimensional form. In this especially, the process of conceiving and organising a calligraphic design is close to that of architecture. Now there is a literary element as well as few structural constraints. Let the imagination flow!
